Alentejo is a beautiful Portuguese region, known for its scenic landscapes and delicious wines. With cities full of significant history and culture, it is a region to enjoy slowly, in a relaxed pace. This tour offers a rich blend of experiences, cultural insights and tasting of local flavours.

Departure from Lisbon to Évora.

Upon arrival, we will take a walking tour of the city to visit the Roman temple (II AD), one of the most emblematic in the city, the Sé, a beautiful medieval cathedral, and the Bone’s chapel – a chapel inside the Church of S. Francisco whose walls are covered in skulls and bones. You have to visit it to understand it!

After the visit, free time for activities to your liking. Visit the Roman baths or have dinner in one of Évora’s traditional restaurants, tasting the flavours of Alentejo. Local dishes may include, among others, Lamb Stew, or “Migas”, a bread based dish, but not only that. Accomodation in Évora. 

Breakfast at the hotel. At 09am, we go out to explore the region, you’ll be able to experience the local traditions, get to know the customs and enjoy the flavours of the Alentejo Our first stop is in São Pedro do Corval, famous for its clay crafts to know and learn about the traditional clay techniques and, who knows, maybe make your own piece!

Then we head up to Monsaraz, a very ancient and extremely pretty village on top of a hill, with great views over the Alentejo planes and the Alqueva dam. Free time to stroll around the medieval streets, visit the castle and enjoy the unique atmosphere. Local flavours take centre stage during lunch in a traditional Alentejo restaurant. After lunch, a visit to Herdade do Esporão for a taste of its renowned wines.

Return to Évora, accommodation.

After breakfast, departure at 09am to Elvas, the most fortified city in Europe. Here you will visit the Forte da Graça, a star-shaped fortress, UNESCO world heritage. Free time to get to know the historic centre. Make sure to see the Amoreira aqueduct, a XVI century engineering marvel.

We will then move on to Estremoz, the “white city”, recognisable for its white houses on the hill. The city is surrounded by very old walls and was once protected by an imposing tower 27 meters tall, made in white marble stone. If you wish, climb to the top and enjoy the great view over the city. Free time for lunch. In the afternoon you will learn about cork and its transformation process from tree bark to various finished products, from cork stoppers to decoration items and fashion wear. Overnight in Évora.

Breakfast at the hotel, check-out. Transfer to Lisbon. End of services or accommodation at your hotel if you are continuing on one of our tours.
