Itinerary
Welcome at Tangier airport according to your flight schedule.
Your discovery of Morocco begins at the vibrant interface between Europe and Africa: Tangier.
For centuries, Romans, Arabs, Portuguese, Spaniards, British, and French have left their marks on this culturally rich city. We’ll start at Cape Spartel, where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean, then explore the legendary Cave of Hercules. As we meander through Tangier’s old streets, we’ll soak up its unique atmosphere, visiting the Kasbah Museum and the American Legation Museum.
After this inspiring exploration, we’ll embark on a scenic drive through the Rif Mountains to the enchanting town of Chefchaouen, renowned for its blue-painted streets and serene ambiance.
We will start the guided tour by the Utta El-Hamam Square, which is in the heart of the Medina. Adjacent to the square is the dramatic Kasbah that was built by the Berber warrior Moulay Ali Ibn Rashid in the 15th century to fight against the Spanish and Portuguese Invaders. The late Sultan Moulay Ismail turned it into a main residence in the 17th century and the Spanish used it as a prison from 1912 to 1956. You’ll be inspired by the unique architecture of the Great Mosque. Meander around the intricate streets that are painted in blue leading to the Ras-El-Ma Spring. The views from this point are stunning with women washing clothes and carpets while boys are playing soccer in the field. Walk back to the Square following different streets with its bustling souks full of shops that sell small items with affordable prices.
We drive through the beautiful Rif mountains to the ancient site of Volubilis – the capital of the Roman pro- vince of Mauritania Tingitana, a UNESCO World Heritage Sites, housing the largest and best-preserved Roman ruins in North Africa before continuing on to Fes.The oldest of the imperial cities, Fes’ fascinating history is rich with wars, murders and political intrigue. It has played an important part in Moroccan trade, culture, religion, and politics as well as being the seat of learning for science. The old and new towns are adjacent but totally separate entities each with a distinctive character begging you to explore.
Fes has many mosques and madrasas (theological colleges) including the ninth century Karouine University, whose architecture is very similar to that seen in Moorish Spain. We will see wonderful mosaics and carved woodwork in Medersa Bou Ananiya, a group of buildings from the fourteenth century, which also includes an elegant minaret overlooking Talaa Kebira.
On our guided tour, we’ll also visit the famous medina which is one of the largest in the world, an immense and confusing warren of souks with thousands of artisans in their tiny shops opening onto the narrow alleyways. Noisy and pungent, hot and claustrophobic, it’s a totally absorbing and unique experience. Our guide will take us to the Jewish District (Mellah), the Royal Palace and a panoramic viewpoint over the Medina.
Finally, our guide will take you in an authentic experience; share dinner with a local family and learn more about their traditions and moroccan culinary.
After a delicious breakfast our day will take us first to Meknes, a city known for its imperial past.
The Sultan Moulay Ismail made it his capital in the 17th century and the city still includes splendid historical remnants built in that time as you will see during your visit including the fascinating gate Bab Mansour, Moulay Ismail Mausoleum and Place el Hedim.
From there we will drive to Rabat, home of the King boasting a fascinating historical centre filled with splendid sultans’ palaces, inspiring mosques, and centuries –old ramparts. You will be guided through the beautiful and the historical, all the most interesting places in the city. We will discover the Royal Palace and tour through the old town to the Hassan Tower, the magnificent mausoleum of Mohammed V and Kasbah of the Oudayas with its dreamlike Andalusian Garden.
We end our day in the bustling Casablanca!
After breakfast, we will go and discover Casablanca, the economic capital of the country, with its beautiful palm trees lined paths and the Atlantic Ocean over the horizon. Visit the beautiful Ain Diab Corniche lined with restaurants and swimming pools, then visit the famous Hassan II Mosque: the largest mosque in Morocco and the third largest mosque in the world. It’s a breathtaking sight, standing on a promontory looking out to the Atlantic, which can be seen through a gigantic glass floor.
Free day at leisure
We will head the road towards the mythical walled red city. A heady, vibrant city where the old meets the new, offering intense sights, sounds and scents in its world famous Medina and an astonishing mix of folklore and music on the authentic stage of Jemma el Fna. Marrakech has a rich cultural heritage with lots to see and do, monuments of great wealth, fine architecture and delightful gardens are just some of the delights this city has to offer. After the check in at your accommodation, you will have some time to discover the city by your own.
Let us today take you in fairy tale called Marrakech that was founded in 1062, and its prosperity at this time made it a fitting capital for an empire which stretched from Algiers to the Atlantic and from the Mediterranean almost to Senegal. Most of the city’s unmissable sights are to be found within the city walls, where mud brick homes nestle alongside classic French colonial buildings. Today you visit the Koutoubia Mosque, the sumptuous Bahia Palace and the Merdersa Ben Youssef, which is a jewel of Moroccan architecture.
In the evening, our culinary journey begins with a hands-on cooking class, guided by a seasoned Moroccan chef. Each member of our group will have the opportunity to craft an authentic Moroccan dish from scratch, with expert guidance. As the fragrant aromas fill the air, anticipation builds for the moment we gather to savour our own homemade feast.
We drive from Marrakech to the lush valley of Ouirgane, located within the stunningToubkal National Park. Along the way, we’ll make numerous stops to capture photos and enjoy the mesmerizing views of the Moroccan countryside and Ouirgane Lake. Just an hour from Marrakech, Ouirgane lies at the foot of Mount Toubkal, offering a hidden green oasis. We’ll embark on a trek through the valley, passing through Marigha and taking in the breathtaking scenery of olive groves and forests.
Lunch will be in a local village, where we’ll have the chance to converse with villagers and learn about their way of life. Our journey continues through the ancient Jewish village of Anraz and the picturesque Ouirgane Valley, ultimately circling back to our starting point.
